Aug 11, 2012 Windows XP Home 'ULCPC' Reinstall. Discussion in 'Tech-to-Tech Computer Help' started by mraikes, Mar 26. We did a reinstall on an Acer Aspire One Netbook a few weeks ago. It had the ULCPC Edition of XP home and we used our Windows Home OEM with SP3 integrated disk. It installed and activated with no problems whatseover!
And are you sure your wireless is connected properly? Does it have a Wep/Wpa key? Open cmd by going to start button -> run eype in 'cmd' -> press enter A black window should open. If you type in ipconfig -> press enter, you should get an IP address.
If that IP address starts with 169.254.X.X that mean that your computer is not getting an IP address from the DHCP. That means that the DHCP is not communicating properly with the wireless connection access point.
Or that perhaps DHCP is not enabled for wireless access point. If you get a proper IP addres different of 169.254.x.x. If your IP addres is something like 192.168.1.101, then you should try to open a browser (internet exploter, Firefox) and type in the address bar the default gateway you obtained when you typed in the black window Ipconfig. The default gateway is usually the third line when you get the stat in ipconfig.
Type the default gateway in Internet explorer and try to see if you get prompted for a user name and password, or if you get to see a page. If you don't get anything then perhaps the wireless access point is not working properly. You might need to power it off. And or reset it to defaults by holding the reset button for a number of seconds, depending on the router and who makes it. You might need to call technical support and have them guide you trough it. Also do you have a wireless wep/wpa key enabled? Hi emma1358, sounds like you have a nice laptop but you have a few issues we need to work out first call your internet provider and ask them how you can setup a wireless connection because your computer is suppose to recieve it but they didn't set their equipment so they will politly walk you through it or send someone out to your house to do that for you it is part of their service.
